CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) was a featured speaker at the Republican National Convention Wednesday.
Mace was one of the first speakers to take the stage on the convention’s third night.
During her speech, titled “America’s Strength,” Mace talked about the path that led her to being a congresswoman who represents the state of South Carolina.
She mentioned dropping out of high school at the age of 17 and working at the local Waffle House. From there, she went on to be the first woman to graduate from The Citadel, the military college in Charleston.
“I soon went from making waffles to making history,” Mace said.
The congresswoman brought up the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump that happened Saturday.
“Just as Trump quickly rose to his feet with a defiant fist in the air in Butler Township, Pennsylvania — when we re-elect him as President, America will soon be back on hers,” Mace said.

The third day of the Republican National Convention kicked off with Republicans expected to shift their focus to issues of national security and foreign policy, according to the Associated Press.
Other people expected to take the state Wednesday night include Donald Trump Jr., Ohio Sen. JD Vance and Vance’s wife Usha Chilukuri Vance.
Former President Donald Trump made the announcement Monday, stating that Vance would be the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States.
Vance is a one-time critic who became a loyal ally to Trump and is now the first millennial to join a major-party ticket at a time of deep concern about the advanced age of America’s political leaders.
