Travis Kelce just called an audible that’s got the NFL world buzzing. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end, known for his clutch plays and touchdown celebrations, recently revealed he’s taking a knee when it comes to Netflix’s upcoming series “Receiver.”
In a candid moment on the “Bussin’ With The Boys” YouTube show last week, Kelce didn’t mince words: “I’m way over the reality shit, dude. I am out on that shit.” This fourth-down decision comes as his teammate Patrick Mahomes steps up to executive produce the show, set to hit Netflix on July 10, 2024.
“Receiver” isn’t just another Hail Mary in the world of sports documentaries. It’s the highly anticipated follow-up to last year’s “Quarterback” series, which gave fans an all-access pass to the lives of NFL signal-callers. This time, the spotlight shifts to the guys on the receiving end of those bullet passes.

The series boasts a Pro Bowl-worthy lineup, featuring Las Vegas Raiders’ Davante Adams, Minnesota Vikings’ Justin Jefferson, San Francisco 49ers’ Deebo Samuel, Detroit Lions’ Amon-Ra St. Brown, and 49ers’ tight end George Kittle. It’s a roster that could make any fantasy football manager drool.
Peyton Manning, who’s no stranger to finding the end zone in both football and media, chimed in on the project: “As we did with Quarterback, we look forward to telling the stories of five incredible receivers, each with their unique personality, skill set, and motivation for what drives them to be the best.”
Kelce isn’t new to this media blitz. Back in 2016, he appeared on a season-long dating show “Catching Kelce” which was canceled after only one season. He also co-hosts the podcast “New Heights’ with his brother Jason Kelce. But now the four-time All-Pro is more interested in catching passes than more camera time. Surprisingly though, this move has come as an indirect way of ditching his friend and quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ media biz

Adding to the intrigue, Mahomes is demonstrating that he possesses equal acumen as a producer that he does in the pocket. He has teamed up with NFL Films and Omaha Productions under his 2 PM Production to bring “Receiver.” to the fans. But Mahomes isn’t just focusing on the small screen. In a play that would make any offensive coordinator proud, 2 PM Productions recently announced a game-changing partnership with Texas Tech and Adidas.
The deal was unveiled in dramatic fashion, with Mahomes’ signature “Gladiator” logo taking center field at Texas Tech’s stadium. Meanwhile, Mahomes does not limit his efforts to the small screens alone when it comes to advertising. The partnership between 2 PM Production and Texas Tech and Adidas may be called one of those plays that any Offensive Coordinator would dream of. The deal was unveiled yesterday with a bang at Texas Tech’s stadium as Mahomes’ “Gladiator” signature took center field.

Revealing the meaning of his logo, Mahomes said back in 2022, “The gladiator mask in my logo represents the mindset of making an impact every single day. Whether it’s training in the gym, on-field practice or a game day. That’s always my mentality.” This mentality seems to be carrying over into his off-field ventures. Gabe Spitzer, VP of Nonfiction Sports at Netflix, noted, “The natural progression is from a pass to a catch, so we’re excited to dive into the Receiver world after the success of our Quarterback series.”
Kelce has stuck to his guns as Mahomes builds an empire faster than he can read defenses. “I’d rather just play ball, man,” he said implying that he is more interested in setting new records than starting off an acting career in reality series. As the 2024 season approaches, fans will be looking out to see if Kelce’s commitment pays off. Will he continue to be Mahomes’ go-to guy on the diamond ring, even as he steps back from the spotlight off it?
