OCEAN CITY — This past weekend, Ocean City High School hosted the 5th annual Chase Race, a 4,000-meter head-style rowing event along the Intracoastal Waterway.
The event, which featured local and out-of-state crews from Pennsylvania and New York, included a record-breaking performance by the Ocean City girls’ eight, which defended its course for the fifth consecutive year while breaking the previous record by a minute with a time of 14:53.
Finishing second was Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School with a time of 16:17.
In the afternoon, Ocean City’s girls’ fours A boat placed second, while the second and third fours won their divisions.
The novice freshmen girls edged St. Anthony’s by four seconds in 6:21. Novice and alumni crews raced in a 1,000-meter dash.
The Ocean City boys’ first four finished third behind EHT and La Salle, with the second four taking second place.
“It was a great day for a race,” said Race Director and Girls Head Coach Colin Stewart. “We’re grateful to volunteers, referees, visiting teams, and our neighbors at All Seasons Marina. These rivalries make the event exciting, and we’re ready to carry today’s momentum into the rest of the season.”
Ocean City teams will compete this weekend at the Navy Day Regatta on Philadelphia’s historic Schuylkill River.
