KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A new Kansas City barbecue team is taking up shop at Kansas City International Airport.
O.G. Bandits won the second-annual Made for Kansas City BBQ Championship last year, and now their recipes will be featured at KCI’s Made of KC BBQ Experience restaurant for the next year.
The Oak Grove-based barbecue team includes Ashton Smith and fiance Josh Farley, plus their four children. The family has been cooking in barbecue competitions for several years.
“We cannot wait to showcase our rubs and sauces at the new Kansas City International Airport terminal. It is a literal dream come true and an amazing once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Smith said.
As part of the championship, they also won a $25,000 prize.
“Never in a million years did we think we would win,” Smith said in a release. “We did what we do and just cooked and prayed to the barbecue gods for good results. We were so surprised and overjoyed when we won!”
The third-annual championship is coming up in June where more barbecue teams will compete to bring their recipes to KCI’s new terminal.
