BALTIMORE — The Yankees have featured many players over the years with unique blends of power and speed. But somewhat improbably, only two had registered seasons of at least 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases entering this season: Bobby Bonds (1975) and Alfonso Soriano (2002-03).
Jazz Chisholm Jr. grabbed a place in the franchise record book in the seventh inning on Friday evening at Camden Yards, clearing the right-field fence for a two-run homer off the Orioles’ Dietrich Enns that marked his 30th blast of the season. The drive cut the Yankees’ deficit to 3-2 at the time.
Asked recently what it would mean to notch a 30-30 season, Chisholm replied: “It would mean a lot if we win the division with it.”
Named to his second All-Star team this season (and first since joining the American League), Chisholm joined the Mets’ Juan Soto (42 homers, 33 stolen bases) as the Majors’ only 30-30 players so far this season.
