Toward the beginning of her episode, Niki explained that she shared body-positive videos on social media. She received unkind comments and DMs about her size, prompting her to post a confident reply. “To anyone who does not like my body, I don’t care,” she declared. “I’m gonna strut my stuff!”
Ultimately, however, she sought the help of Atlanta-based bariatric surgeon, Dr. Charles Procter.

A Dangerously Obese sneak peek clip shared with Parade revealed that Dr. Procter gave Niki an initial goal of losing 40 pounds in one month after her first weigh-in revealed her starting weight: 470 pounds. Instead of dropping weight, Niki gained 23 pounds by her next appointment, weighing in at 493 pounds.
“I don’t know if I’m disappointed or just in shock,” Dr. Procter told producers. “I give patients these weight loss goals so they can prove to themselves that they can meet a goal, that they can have a bit of a success. I don’t know when I’ve ever seen a patient come in after a weight loss challenge, having instead gained 23 pounds. I really don’t even know how to react to that.”
Another teaser clip showed Niki in tears as she took a pole dancing class and compared her body to other women there.
