SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA — Parents are in uproar in Springfield Township after disagreements over the little league schedule led to a hired airplane “flyover” carrying a banner meant to embarrass a critic.
The drama stems from concern that was expressed by some parents about the little league’s decision to cut short the regular season to allow more time for summer travel ball, parents told Patch. Critics of the move say that it doesn’t allow as much playing time for intramural-level players. Apparently in response to these efforts to understand the little league’s policies and decisions, someone hired a private plane carrying a long banner with the message “His name is” followed by the name of one of the parents.
“The airplane flyover that targeted a Little League family and other forms of adult bullying should have no place in SLL,” reads a Change.org petition. “Little League is supposed to be a fun, nurturing, inclusive place for all the children in our town to have the chance to learn and love the game of baseball.” Springfield Little League acknowledged an incident in an email sent out to its community on May 27, and said that an investigation was underway.
