EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – The Chippewa Valley Museum held a special panel Tuesday to discuss the history of immigration in the Chippewa Valley.
The event was inspired by the museum’s current photography exhibition called “Working America”, which features portraits of immigrant and first-generation laborers by artist Sam Comen.
The museum’s creative director says many people have made a home in the area after spending much of their lives elsewhere, and it’s the museum’s goal to bring people together in an effort to understand those events and experiences.
“The goal of the museum having a panel discussion like this is really to have community discussions for people to connect across generations, across experience groups, across culture groups,” Olaf Lind said. “The museum really wants to be a place where people can get together and talk about things in the community.”
The “Working America” exhibit will be at the Chippewa Valley Museum until May 25th.
Lind says the exhibit features many stories of immigrants in southern states like California, but those same stories reflect the experiences of immigrants in the Chippewa Valley.
