Summary The Conners season 6 introduces a new character who may become a permanent addition to the cast.
Becky’s willingness to marry Tyler shows growth and stability for her character after years of romantic struggles.
The show should give Becky a happy ending and allow her relationship with Tyler to flourish for the sake of stability and happiness.
While The Conners season 6 waited until its second episode to reintroduce one of season 5’s guest stars, the Roseanne spinoff’s new character is already on the verge of joining the family. Although the Conner family weren’t very lucky in love during Roseanne’s original run in the ‘90s, their fortunes have taken a turn in recent years. Ever since Roseanne became The Conners when Roseanne was killed off after the sitcom’s season 10 revival in 2017, the show’s supporting characters have been paired off in a string of surprisingly healthy, happy relationships. Even Aunt Jackie got married in the season 4 finale.
While The Conners season 7 might see this good luck come to an end, the family’s fortune in the romance department seems to still be going strong in season 6. Not only has Darlene ended up married to Ben, but now her chaotic sister Becky has a promising new relationship too. Season 6, episode 2, “Valentine’s Day Treats and Credit Card Cheats,” opened with a scene where the Conners played a game of poker with Sean Astin’s Tyler, a love interest who was first seen in season 5. Although Tyler hadn’t been mentioned since then, the couple are committed.
Becky Told Tyler They Could Get Married in The Conners Season 6
Sean Astin’s guest star may become a permanent addition to The Conners cast
Later in “Valentine’s Day Treats and Credit Card Cheats,” Becky blithely joked about marrying Tyler. While this seemed like a throwaway line, Astin’s character seemed taken aback by the revelation and asked Becky whether such a serious commitment was really on the table. She immediately confirmed that it was a possibility, which bodes well for their future. Becky’s willingness to marry Tyler is great news since, more so than any other character in The Conners, she has historically been unlucky in love and fickle when it comes to relationships. As a result, Becky could really benefit from some stability.
Some of Becky’s romantic struggles can be chalked up to her drinking problem and her subsequent bad decisions, but a lot of the tragedies that befell her were out of her control. She unexpectedly became pregnant with her daughter via a one-night stand shortly before the baby’s father, Emilio, was deported. Although Emilio returned to Lanford, their relationship understandably fell apart. Before that, Becky’s original Roseanne love interest Mark Healy died offscreen in a motorcycle accident. This was written into the Roseanne revival due to the real-life passing of actor Glen Quinn, who played Healy throughout the hit sitcom’s original ‘90s run.
The Conners is available on Hulu; Roseanne is available on Peacock.
Tyler and Becky’s First Fight Made This Twist Less Likely
The couple’s fight proved their relationship is still in its early days
After The Conners season 6 fixed Harris’s pointless character arc in its premiere, it briefly seemed as though “Valentine’s Day Treats and Credit Card Cheats” would offer Becky a similarly easy way out of her romantic travails. However, it soon became clear that Tyler and Becky had a lot more work to do before they were able to walk down the aisle together. Tyler bribed Beverly-Rose to win her over and upset Becky in the process, proving that the pair could still screw up the relationship in the coming episodes. Luckily, Becky was understanding and Tyler was apologetic.
While couples in The Conners have broken up over less than this, the fact that Becky has spent years studying Psychology in college and is committed to maturing bodes well for her and Tyler. While The Conners heroine Darlene constantly sabotaged her own romantic life for years, the fact that she ended up in a successful marriage with Ben proves that even the most sardonic and cynical characters can find happiness. Becky is nowhere near as bitter as Darlene or as madcap as Jackie, meaning there is no reason that she and Tyler won’t be able to make their relationship work.
Becky and Tyler Should Stay Together In The Conners Season 6
The Roseanne spinoff should give Becky a happy ending for once
Close
Whether or not they get married, Becky and Tyler shouldn’t break up in The Conners season 6. The duo doesn’t necessarily need to be wed right away, but not a lot has gone right for Becky in recent years, so she could do with the support and stability offered by a sweet character like Tyler. Tyler has met Becky’s family, which is already further than most of her love interests have gotten in the spinoff, and his willingness to work on their relationship together proves that he has the potential to be a great addition to the clan.
While The Conners doesn’t know what Ben should do now that he and Darlene are happily married, this is still better than breaking up the couple solely for the sake of drama. Both Becky and Darlene had love stories that ended in tragedy, so the last thing that Roseanne’s spinoff needs is to put the younger of the duo through this trauma all over again. After years spent struggling in both Roseanne and The Conners, Becky deserves to finally gain some stability and happiness and Tyler can provide this for her.
