The California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section announced its girls’ soccer all-CIF selections that featured multiple Santa Clarita Valley players on the lists.
In the Division 2 category, Centurions Makea Leonard and Carmen Flores represented Saugus High School after leading their team to two playoff wins in the Southern Section playoffs.
During the playoffs, Leonard led the team in goals scored with three, including a brace in a 2-0 win over the Temecula Valley Golden Bears in the second round.
Leonard ended her high school career with an all-CIF honor and is committed to continuing her academic and athletic career at the University of Oregon.
As for Flores, the senior midfielder made the list after recording four assists throughout the season.
The Centurions’ season came to an end in the quarterfinals of the Division 2 playoffs to the Ayala Bulldogs of Chino Hills in penalties.
In the Division 3 list, the Valencia Vikings had two players in sophomore Dakota Baccelli and senior Sasha Vera as honorees after the Vikings won two postseason games.
Vera and Baccelli, who made the list as a midfielder and defender respectively, both helped the Vikings shut out their opponents during the playoffs as no team scored on Valencia’s defense during regulation across all three games.
The Vikings’ season came to an end in the quarterfinals of the Division 3 bracket to the Crescenta Valley Falcons in penalties.
