Chesapeake Master Gardeners and Chesapeake Public Libraries have partnered to bring the community a fresh food series.
Each month, participants will learn about a different edible plant. The series kicks off with microgreens from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Russell Memorial Library and from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at South Norfolk Memorial Library.
Each session will include information about growing and taking care of the featured plant. It will also have an activity, giveaways and recipes to take home.
“Anybody can grow anything, no matter at home or in an apartment,” said Michael Andruczyk, senior horticulture agent with Virginia Cooperative Extension.
The master gardeners heard about this project at an out-of-state conference. They had hoped to implement it here sooner, but the pandemic happened.
The series is free to attend and requires no registration. Andruczyk provided a schedule, subject to change:
