Kobbie Mainoo is one of many names to currently be injured as Manchester United undergo the festive period.
Mainoo, who has featured just ten times this season, has been linked with moves away from Old Trafford in the January transfer window with his future at the club set to be decided soon ahead of the window.
With this in mind, several clubs have been linked with a move for the midfielder.
One of these is Chelsea who are reported to be currently leading the race to sign the Manchester United youth academy graduate.
But, with Kobbie Mainoo picking up an injury prior to United’s game at Villa Park on Sunday, it remains unclear whether the side will change their status on Mainoo.
Furthermore, for Manchester United, Kobbie Mainoo could play a pivotal part in the midfield if captain Bruno Fernandes is out for a prolonged period, which is expected following Ruben Amorim’s comments.
Now, Amorim has provided an update on Mainoo and Fernandes confirming both statuses for the upcoming Newcastle United Boxing Day clash.
Speaking to the media following the Aston Villa fixture, the manager stated: “Kobbie Mainoo is out, Bruno Fernandes is out, so we’ll see. No excuses, we’ll try to win the next game.”
With this update now provided, it appears that both midfielders will be missing from the squad for the Newcastle fixture.
However, as Amorim states, the squad will have to find a way to adapt to this and provide a challenge against the Toon on Boxing Day.
Now, with Amorim speaking, fans may look towards the United boss to see if he provides further updates on the potential return dates for both midfielders.
However, fans may have to be patient to wait for this update.
