Indigenous Peoples’ Day Festival on unceded Onondaga land

    The Onondaga Nation held the third annual Indigenous Peoples’ Day Festival on unceded Onondaga land Sunday.
    Indigenous Peoples’ Day Festival was held at the Tsha’ Thoñ’nhes Arena on the Onondaga Nation. The festival featured the Haudenosaunee Singers and Dancers, artists, craftspeople and food.
    Some of the featured artists were Peter Jones Pottery, painter Barry Powless, and the Onondaga Women Singers.
    Indigenous Peoples’ Day is celebrated on the second Monday in October. It began as a counter-celebration to Columbus Day, the holiday which honors Italian explorer Christopher Columbus.
