Baton Rouge schools featured on all state basketball team

    In a strong season for high school basketball in the Baton Rouge area, several athletes were named to the LSWA Class 2A all-state team.
    French Settlement girls basketball won its first state title since 1964 after defeating Westlake 44-36 in the Division III nonselect championship.
    Lions senior guard Stella Allison was named to the first team after she averaged 19.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, four assists and 3.7 steals this year. The Northwestern State signee scored 22 points in the state title game.
    Coach Jake Bourgeois was named coach of the year after leading French Settlement to a state title while balancing coaching the boys and girls basketball teams.
    Three Baton Rouge-area athletes made the girls second team. East Feliciana junior Kariah Dunn averaged 17 points per game and helped the Tigers reach their first-ever state semifinal appearance.
    Episcopal senior Caroline Watson averaged 28 points, five assists and four rebounds this year. She finished her career as a 2,000-point scorer.
    Northeast seventh grader Ja’Rian Riley averaged 20 points per game. She averaged 10 steals per game and totaled more than 240 steals this season.
    On the boys’ side, a pair of Dunham athletes made the first team. Senior guard AJ Olivier averaged 19.6 points, four rebounds and four assists. He helped lead the Tigers back to the state semifinals.
    Junior forward Elijah Haven averaged 14.4 points, 6.5 rebounds and five assists for Dunham. After Haven and Olivier made the all-state second team last year, both earned first-team honors this year.
