    ▪ Senior Sophia LaFauci’s goal for Waltham in its 3-2 overtime upset of defending Division 1 girls’ hockey champion Hingham, was the 100th of her career.
    ▪ Algonquin senior Maddy Glynn notched her 100th career point with a pair of goals in a 3-0 Division 1 first-round triumph over Westford.
    ▪ One we missed while on vacation last week: Needham senior Eva Andrews suprassed 700 rebounds and 200 blocks for her career, grabbing more than 200 boards and blocking more than 100 shots this season alone.
Outside of No. 7 Hingham, the highest seeded team to be eliminated Thursday was No. 12 King Philip girls’ basketball, which fell, 49-47, to No. 19 Malden Catholic on freshman Maria Martinez’s clutch free throws with one second on the clock.
No. 13 Framingham boys’ hockey was taken down, 7-2, by No. 20 Lincoln-Sudbury. Three times the No. 18 seed defeated the No. 15 seed: In girls’ basketball with Fontbonne defeating Lowell, 44-33; in boys’ hockey with No. 18 Pentucket handing No. 15 Lunenburg/Ayer Shirley a 4-3 overtime defeat; and in girls’ hockey, where Wakefield/Wilmington took out No. 15 Marshfield, 3-2, in double overtime.
There were some truly exciting finishes Thursday:
    ▪ The Malden Catholic and Beverly/Danvers girls’ hockey teams played through three scoreless overtime periods and needed a shootout to determine a winner. The 14th-seeded Lancers won the shootout, 2-0, to take the first-round marathon, 3-2, at Kasabuski Rink, where the game was moved after a second day of Zamboni issues at the Malden Forum.
    ▪ The Division 3 boys’ basketball tournament saw a triple-overtime thriller between Pembroke and Gardner, won by the No. 24 Titans, 63-57, thanks to 32 points from senior Michael Marcella and 24 from junior Matt Pike.
    ▪ In Division 2 girls’ hockey, it took two overtimes for No. 18 Wakefield/Wilmington to hand No. 15 Marshfield a 3-2 loss. Junior Emma Ebert potted both the tying goal in the third period and the winner.
    ▪ Essex Tech boys’ hockey defeated Quincy/North Quincy, 4-3, on senior Chase Ruberti’s overtime winner; senior John Racki scored two minutes into OT to lift Pentucket over Lunenburg/Ayer Shirley, 4-3; and senior Leah Toner drilled the winner 37 seconds into overtime, handing Hanover a 2-1 victory over Walpole.
    ▪ The night’s non-overtime thriller saw Malden Catholic girls’ basketball slip past King Philip, 49-47, when freshman Maria Martinez hit a pair of free throws with one second left on the clock.
Will Olinto, Latin Academy — The sophomore nearly pulled off a triple-double in a 77-52 preliminary-round win over Commerce, scoring 20 points with 11 rebounds and seven assists.
Michael Marcella, Pembroke — The senior captain poured in 32 points to power a 63-57 double-overtime, preliminary-round win over Gardner.
Jenna Mishou, Archbishop Williams — The senior dominated inside, producing 36 points and 16 rebounds in a commanding first-round win over Longmeadow, 74-56.
Elle Orlando, Notre Dame (Hingham) — The senior nabbed eight steals, helping her pile up 23 points in a 50-44 first-round victory over Marblehead.
Jake Cunha, Tewksbury — The junior captain unleased four goals in a 9-2 first-round destruction of Westborough.
Abigail Burke, Notre Dame (Hingham) — Just an eighth-grader, she wasn’t shy of the spotlight, scoring three times in a dominant, 4-0, first-round win over Shawsheen/Bedford/Lowell.
Former Oliver Ames girl’s basketball coach Laney Clement-Holbrook will be recognized as the Sherman A. Kinney Basketball Award recipient for 2026 before the Tigers’ Division 2 first-round matchup with Bedford on Friday (5 p.m.).
Clement-Holbrook retired in 2022 after going 733-244 over 46 seasons leading the Tigers, which stands as the state record for a girls’ basketball coach. She won 19 Hockomock League championships and three state titles.
The Kinney award, given out annually since 1996, goes to a someone who has made outstanding contributions to high school basketball in the state.
The 48th Shriners All-Star Football Classic will be played June 12 at 7 p.m. at Hormel Stadium in Medford. The game features grauduating high school seniors who face off on North and South all-star teams, with all proceeds from the game donated to the Shriners Hospital in Boston.
Winchester coach Wally Dembowski will helm the North squad, while his cousin, Milton coach Steve Dembowksi, leads the South team.
Scott Boyle’s return to the Lowell football sidelines turned out to be brief. After two seasons, Boyle resigned as Red Raiders’ head football coach, informing the team Wednesday.
Boyle began his second stint at Lowell in 2024, going 4-7 before posting a 9-2 mark last fall that included a playoff win over Methuen, and an appearance in the Division 1 quarterfinals.
Boyle also coached Lowell from 1997-2006. His 81 wins with the Red Raiders is second all-time, trailing only Ray Riddick (182).
Catholic Memorial senior Brian Wukitch has committed to swim for Marist. Wukitch finished third in the 100-yard backstroke (54.66) and 200 IM (1:57.76) at the South boys’ swimming sectional.
Emerson senior Bri Frongillo, a Hopedale graduate, became the program’s all-time leading scorer when she scored 17 points against Clark University, giving her 1,272 points over 62 games in three seasons. She surpassed the previous mark of 1,270 points set by Molly Zahr in 2001. Frongillo scored more than 2,000 points at Hopedale.
    ▪ Wesleyan sophomore Zach Wolinski, a North Andover graduate, was named NESCAC men’s basketball player of the week after posting back-to-back 30-point games. He scored a career-high 32 to beat Bowdoin, then topped himself with 33 in a win over Colby. He totaled 10 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals in the wins.

He had three goals and an assist to beat Binghamton, then eight goals in a 19-9 win over New Jersey Institute of Technology. He leads the Patriot League in goals (14) and is tied for second in points (15).

    ▪ UMass Dartmouth freshman Amanda Ebenezer, a Malden graduate, was named Little East Conference women’s basketball Rookie of the Week after averaging 13.5 points and 6.0 rbounds in a 1-1 week for the Corsairs, highlighted by a 15-point, 10-rebound performance against Southern Maine.
