DETROIT – There aren’t too many concerts where fans truly feel like they experienced everything they wanted to see and hear. This concert truly gave fans that encounter, and then some.
This was one of the more unique concerts we have ever been to as it featured one moment after another we did not expect to see.
New Edition brought their “The New Edition Way Tour” with Boyz II Men and Toni Braxton to Little Caesars Arena on Friday, February 20.
As if that wasn’t enough, fans were treated to solo songs from Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant, along with a little Bell Biv DeVoe.
When we say this concert delivered everything a fan could want, we meant it.
The setup was simple, but the production value was high. The stage had three levels on it with openings underneath each one for easy access on and off the stages.
This wasn’t your ordinary concert with an opener and a main act. All three were the main acts, alternating all night long and even performing some songs together.
Like when Tresvant performed “Do What I Gotta Do” with Boyz II Men delivering background vocals. Perhaps the best backup singers in music history, if for just one song only.
And Brown had help from his New Edition bandmates as they sang background on Every Little Step and My Prerogative.
Every single hit song possible was performed at this concert, except for just one, Braxton’s “Another Sad Love Song.”
Other than that, fans got every old school hit from New Edition with “Mr. Telephone Man,” “Candy Girl,” “Cool It Now,” “If It Isn’t Love” and “Can You Stand The Rain.”
They heard everything from Boyz II Men with “Motownphilly,” “Uhh Ahh,” “I’ll Make Love To You,” “Water Runs Dry,” “On Bended Knee,” “One Sweet Day” and “End of the Road.”
Braxton delivered with “He Wasn’t Man Enough,” “You’re Makin’ Me High,” “How Many Ways,” “Just Be a Man About It,” “Breathe Again,” “Long as I Live” and “Un-Break My Heart.”
Brown’s solos featured “Roni,” “Don’t Be Cruel,” “Every Little Step” and “My Prerogative,” and Bel Biv Devoe broke out “Do Me,” “When Will I See You Smile Again” and “Poison.”
Even Gill showcased his vocals with “My, My, My,” “Sensitivity” and “Rub Me The Right Way.”
Three hours of hits from three huge R&B music artists along with three more solo singers and a trio. It was essentially seven artists at one show.
One of the best concerts of the year in Detroit, and with 10 months to go, it will be difficult to top this one.
