Following a disappointing season that featured the team’s worst record since 2019, the Miami Dolphins decided to make changes atop the organization. During the season, the team fired general manager Chris Grier, and following the season the Dolphins also parted ways with head coach Mike McDaniel after four seasons.
Aside from making changes to their front office and coaching staff, the team will now have to make decisions on their roster. Key veteran players like Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, and Bradley Chubb have substantial cap hits for the 2026 season and the Dolphins could opt to release them.
After suffering a dislocated knee in Week 4 of the 2025 season against the Jets, All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill missed the remainder of the season. With a $51 million cap hit in 2026, the Dolphins are expected to release him following June 1, in a move that would give Miami $35 million in cap space. After a season in which no Dolphins wide receiver went over 1,000 receiving yards, the Dolphins are projected to add a “No-Brainer WR1.”
Dolphins Projected to Draft Wide Receiver
With the Dolphins in need of a receiver to complement Jaylen Waddle, Justin Melo of The Draft Network has Miami selecting Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson with the 11th pick in the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft. Melo added, “Jordyn Tyson would be the no-brainer WR1 in this class if not for a lengthy and concerning injury history. Medical checks at the NFL Combine will be critical to determining his actual draft stock. The Miami Dolphins are undergoing a lot of change, but they’ll need to replace Tyreek Hill this offseason.”
In the mock draft Tyson was the second receiver off the board, behind Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate. In The Draft Network’s scouting profile, they describe Tyson as a wide receiver that “combines route running, size, athleticism, and big-play ability, which gives him a clear path to be a WR1 for an NFL offense.” They have him graded as a round 1, Pro Bowl caliber player.
Tyson played only nine games in 2025 after suffering a hamstring injury. In those nine games he totaled 61 receptions for 711 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns. As mentioned previously, his primary concern has been injuries. Aside from his hamstring injury, Tyson suffered a torn ACL in 2022, and a broken collarbone in 2024.
    Miami Dolphins New General Manager
Former Dolphins general manager Chris Grier had a tendency to go after players with an extensive injury history, as he deemed them to be good value. In 2020, the Dolphins drafted Tua Tagovailoa despite a hip injury that cost him his final season at Alabama. In 2021, the Dolphins drafted Jaylen Waddle and Jaelan Phillips in the first round. Waddle suffered a broken ankle in his final season at Alabama while Phillips had medically retired while playing at UCLA.
