Joao Gomes is one of the names linked with a move to Manchester United in the upcoming January transfer window.
The central midfielder, who plays for Wolverhampton Wanderers, has featured 12 times for Wolves this season and has started ten of these games.
Furthermore, from a wider lens, the Brazilian has featured 104 times for the Midlands outfit and has scored seven times.
As well as this, at Flamengo, his previous club, the 24-year-old scored four times in 122 appearances.
These figures, alongside Casemiro’s contract expiring next summer, led to Gomes being linked with a move to Old Trafford as an ideal replacement for Casemiro.
Following these initial links, the central midfielder’s pricetag was revealed with a £44 million price set should United want to sign the 24-year-old.
Meanwhile, Joao Gomes did not rule out a move to Manchester United should Wolves go down.
But, on Saturday, it was revealed that the midfielder is set to stay at the Midlands outfit in the upcoming transfer window unless an absurd offer came in for Gomes.
Now, new Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Rob Edwards has provided an update on United’s approach to sign the 24-year-old.
Speaking prior to Wolves’ 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, Edwards stated: “We’ve spoken about stuff but my focus has been on getting the team organised.
“We have got some good players and there will always be interest, but I’m not aware of anything.
“Joao has been excellent this week.”
Speaking about Joao Gomes in general, the new Wolves boss stated: “He [Gomes] is unbelievable on the pitch.
“I feel very secure.
“I feel like I can lose the ball when I have my midfielders behind me.”
Now, attention could turn to United to see if the club make a move for the midfielder.
