Erykah Badu describes herself as a “mother first,” which may help explain the fact that she hasn’t released an album since 2015. But that long drought hasn’t diminished her star power one bit. Last summer, the Queen of Neo-Soul launched her biggest U.S. tour ever, playing sports arenas like American Airlines Center and Madison Square Garden. And on Saturday, Feb. 24, she’ll celebrate her 53rd trip around the sun with her annual hometown birthday concert at The Factory in Deep Ellum. There’s no word yet on what time she’ll actually start — she often walks onstage close to midnight — or who her opening acts and special guests will be. But past birthday shows have been star-studded affairs featuring the likes of Dave Chappelle and Leon Bridges.
